Despite what you might think from the very extensive coverage in the press having cosmetic surgery is a big step to take and involves much thought from both the patient and the surgeon. If performed for the correct reasons it can enormously enrich a patient's life, however the patient must appreciate what is involved in the surgery both during the operation itself and during the healing processes afterwards. What are the risks? What is the result likely to be? Unfortunately no two human bodies behave the same as they heal and so there will always be a small element which is unpredictable following cosmetic surgery.

Patients contemplating surgery may wish to compare different surgeons and hospitals far afield but there are great benefits to being treated locally by a surgeon who both has experience and is committed to looking after you until the best result has been obtained. Local hospitals are now very competitively priced and it makes sense to ask your family doctor about which surgeon he would advise and your surgeon should also ask you your permission to keep your doctor informed. Don't be afraid to ask your surgeon how much experience he has in a particular procedure.
